Call me one of Martin's Drum Majors

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR Said: "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter."

I always march with a smile,
I always march with hope,
I always march without fear,
I always march knowing we may not win today.

I march knowing we will win someday,
I march knowing if we do not march today then we can never win,
I march knowing justice lives in the hearts of our marchers,
I march knowing justice is coming,
I march knowing one-man marching makes a difference.

I march with love in my heart everyday,
I march knowing Public Education requires JUSTICE,
I march with a conviction of truth, because Dr. King that Drum Major for Justice, Peace and Righteousness told us all other things are shallow,
I have been called over optimistic and even naive at times,
But, I know better, because I learned from that greatest American drum major of justice, peace, and righteousness.

Call me another simple drum major for justice,
Call me another simple drum major for peace,
Call me another simple drum major for righteousness,
But most of all!
Call this Walking Man one of Martin’s Drum majors.

If you like to know what song Drum Major is marching to today....it's the version Playing for change of "No more Trouble" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgWFxFg7-GU

Like that Greatest of Drum Majors for justice.
I too can hear
But let justice roll down like waters, and
Righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. ...
But judgmentshall be revealed as water, and
Justice as a mighty torrent. (Amos 5:24)
I welcome the label Optimistic Drum Major
I welcome the label Naive Drum Major
 Because marching today matters,
Because
Someday I know I won't have to march anymore.

  1. I think I heard the beat of a different drummer in your words, Jesse. I would add Thoreau to your list of mentors. I am honored to call you Friend.

  3. Jesse: I am just beginning a book I know you would like by Sir Ken Robinson and Lou Aronica: Creative Schools - The Grassroots Revolution That's Transforming Education. Here is one quote: As I see it, the aims of education are to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens.

  4. Sir Ken Robinson, has been one of wonderful positive counter narrative voices to this insane education reform that is reducing our children to data.
